1 injured in Deer Park strip mall fire

DEER PARK - A firefighter was injured and two stores destroyed during a fast-moving fire in Deer Park last night.

According to officials, flames broke out at a strip mall on Deer Park Avenue at around 5 p.m. They say ambulance, rescue, fire and police crews from five communities responded.

Investigators say they believe the fire started at the Chung Wah Chinese restaurant and then moved into the Laundromat next door. They say the flames quickly moved from business to business, causing heavy damage.

Officials say the injured firefighter was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he is said to be OK.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
