1 dead after car, garbage truck collide in St. James

ST. JAMES - Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a garbage truck and a Jeep in St. James.

The accident happened on Middle Country Road just after 2 a.m.

Police now confirm the Jeep's unidentified male driver was killed in the crash.

Detectives confirmed to News 12 Long Island that the Jeep did crash into the garbage truck but they are investigating the cause.

The garbage truck driver was taken to the hospital.

This is the second time in a week that a garbage truck is involved in an fatal accident. Last week an off-duty Suffolk County officer was killed in Commack.
