Many of the state's train stations are lacking an important safety feature -- security cameras.
News 12 found that 40% of the stations do not have security cameras -- that includes all four stations in Greenwich.
Last year, Metro-North's New Haven line carried over 40 million passengers — a 20,000-rider increase from the year before and the most ever in Metro-North history.
But despite the increase in ridership, many stations are still lacking the safety feature.
News 12 sent a Freedom of Information Act request to Metro-North but the agency declined to comment.
The state Department of Transportation says it is responsible for cameras on the Metro-North platforms. But the DOT would not speak to News 12 about the issue on camera and says it does not talk about security measures.
Greenwich police say the overall crime rate in Greenwich is low, making it one of the safest cities in America. But some commuters say the stations still need security cameras.
First Selectman Peter Tesei says he did not know that all four of the stations in his jurisdiction do not have cameras.
"I was surprised when I was made aware this week through your organization," Tesei says. "I just presumed based upon the fact that most transportation centers have cameras in place."
Tesei says the three smaller stations in town are owned by the state DOT. But the main Greenwich central station is privately owned. All four are maintained by the town.

The state DOT says cameras are coming to Greenwich stations. It says the design phase will start next year.
The DOT says in the next few years, it will also be installing cameras in Stratford, Greens Farms and Rowayton, where there are also no cameras.
News 12 found that some of the busiest stations, like Stamford and Bridgeport, have over 100 security cameras, where crime rates are higher.
