A newborn baby was found dead at a garbage facility in Stamford Tuesday morning.
Officials say workers at City Carting on Taylor Reed Place found the baby boy within material that was being recycled around 8:40 a.m.
"The child appears to be a full-term newborn," says Stamford Police Lt. Tom Scanlon.
Stamford police say discovering where the body came from could be challenging since the facility collects garbage from surrounding states.
Police say they will be reviewing log books to determine which trucks have recently entered the facility.
"The obvious things are surveillance cameras to look at the number of trucks, the origin of those trucks," says Lt. Scanlon. "Certainly City Carting has been cooperative, and they'll have the logging material from those trucks, and that's what the investigators are looking at right now."
Authorities are searching for the mother while they try to determine how long the body was at the facility.
An autopsy will be performed on the baby Wednesday to determine how the child died.
