Drivers who use the Department of Motor Vehicle's website to renew or obtain a license will be the first to see the new New York identification.
Officials say the new licenses have 30 security features, including a laser-engraved black and white picture.
Those under 21 years of age will be issued vertical licenses.
All New York DMV offices will be handing out the new licenses by September.
