New video was released Sunday that purportedly shows the rescue of hostages held in an Islamic State camp.

Officials said they had to move in because graves had just been dug, presumably for the hostages.

The Kurdish regional government in Northern Iraq released video of the mission, which involved U.S. troops and resulted in the first death of a U.S. military member in combat operations against the Islamic State.

Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) called 39-year-old Army Master Sgt. Joshua L. Wheeler, of Oklahoma, a hero.

Wheeler's death raises questions about U.S. troops' advisory role in the Middle East and the rules of engagement in combat. 

"That advisory role is very close to being a combat role," said King. "Once the shots are fired, you can't just say, 'I'm an adviser.' You're there, and you have to protect yourself and protect those you are with."

A coalition aircraft has reportedly destroyed the facility where the hostages were being held.
