Kennedy Memorial Park in Hempstead underwent a $500,000 makeover. The upgrades include a new playground surface for local families.
Interactive sensory equipment for children with special needs were also installed to encourage socialization.
"The park is better than before because it has more learning devices that help the kids and promote their motor skills. I think it's better they upgraded it for the kids to do better for the community," says Iasia Freeman, a Hempstead mother of two.
Local officials say they are working to improve other local parks in the community.
