Congress has passed a law protecting airline passengers if their flight gets bumped or an airline loses or damages their luggage.

If a passenger is bumped from a flight and delayed more than 2 hours, the airline has to pay them up to $1,350, according to the new law.

"I think that's fantastic,” says Rob DeLuca, who flies every week. “It happens frequently."

If your flight is delayed, airlines now cannot keep passengers on the tarmac for more than three hours on domestic flights, and more than four hours on international flights.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal pushed for the changes last month.

If the airline loses or damage a passenger’s luggage, they can be compensated up to $3,500.

The government has not decided how long bags have to be delayed before the passenger is compensated.

The new law did not drop the price of airline fees, many of which consumers argue are too high.
