New Jersey names incoming class of state Hall of Fame inductees

Gov. Phil Murphy announced the winners of the New Jersey Hall of Fame’s 11th class Monday at a ceremony in Newark.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced the winners of the New Jersey Hall of Fame’s 11th class Monday at a ceremony at Newark Liberty International Airport.
This year’s inductees are: “Jaws" author Peter Benchley of Pennington, longtime Star-Ledger sport columnist Jerry Izenberg of Neptune; "Game of Thrones" author George R. R. Martin of Bayonne, photographer Timothy White of Fort Lee, "Seinfeld" star Jason Alexander of Livingston, rocker Southside Johnny Lyon, the members of the rock band The Smithereens, New York Giants Harry Carson and Bart Oates, legendary basketball player and coach Anne Donovan, Olympics gymnast Laurie Hernandez, Hoboken teachers activist Elizabeth Allen, and Newark cardiac surgeon Victor Parsonnet, businessman J. Fletcher Creamer Sr., businessman F.M. Kirby II, restaurateur Tim McLoone, businesswoman Mary Roebling, businessman Arthur Ryan and businesswoman and television personality Martha Stewart.
The induction ceremony will be held Oct. 27 in Asbury Park.
New Jersey Hall of Fame chairman Jon Hanson announced during the ceremony that the hall of fame has reached $10 million in the fundraising campaign for its permanent museum at the American Dream complex in East Rutherford. The museum is scheduled to open in December 2020.
