The site of a fatal crash in Brookhaven early Thursday morning has long been a concern for neighbors.
Police say Gregory Goodley, 45, of Shirley, was driving on Montauk Highway when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and struck another car near South Country Road.
Goodley was pronounced dead. The other driver, Rebecca Davis, is being treated for serious injuries. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m.
The posted speed limit in the area is 50 mph. For some, it is a blind curve.
Mark Lembo says the site of the crash is his granddaughter's school bus stop. He says the incident is the fourth fatal crash in the same location in less than three years.
"It's becoming more like a gravesite than a bus stop at this point," he told News 12. He says he would like to see a traffic light installed at the location.
Suffolk Legislator Kate Browning, a member of the Public Safety Committee, says she is hoping to make the stretch of road safer. She told News 12 that she plans to reach out to Suffolk police and the Department of Public Works in an effort to "mitigate the speed of drivers on that road."
Suffolk police detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
