Neighbors of an East End lavender farm say the traffic the farm is attracting during the summer months is wreaking  having on their one road.
Lavender by the Bay, at 7540 Main Road in East Marion, attracts lots of traffic when the lavender is in bloom from mid-June through mid-July.
Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell says the area isn't designed for this type of heavy traffic.
"It's only one road in and out of the town and that's Route 25 east and west. You don't have a place to divert that traffic," says Russell.
Lavender by the Bay's co-owner Susan Rozenbaum says they are doing what they can to keep the traffic moving. She says they have added additional parking and are working with the town.
The town put up no parking signs and police officers are making sure traffic keeps moving. Still, Russell says the farm will need to do more to ease the flow of traffic.
"I think in the offseason, we'll have to let the owner know that we'll have to mandate offsite parking," he said.
Rozenbaum says they are certainly open to it, but not too far away.
"I wouldn't want people after traveling two hours, three hours, sometimes even more for them to have to sit on a bus for a half-hour," she said.
