Nassau and Suffolk officials say they are prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws their way during the wintry storm.

The LIRR says trains are running on normal schedules Sunday and Monday, and railroad workers are positioned for snow removal and de-icing the tracks.

Nassau County officials say salt trucks and plows are ready to clear the roads if any accumulation occurs. County Executive Laura Curran says drivers may want to avoid any unnecessary travel, because the road conditions could become slick.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said, "In preparation for the storm, we have pre-deployed equipment, and our Department of Public Works crews remain on standby."

Nassau County has opened a few warming centers for anyone who needs to get out of the cold. County officials are also reminding residents about the Homeless Hotline to help those in need find shelter. That number is 1-866-WARM BED or 927-6233.
