Nassau County Police Department warns against ATM skimmer scams
Police are warning credit card holders about skimming devices that have been found across Nassau County.
Police say thieves are using the high-tech devices to steal money and personal information from customers at banks, gas stations and convenience stores. The skimmers are glued on and hard to detect. Police also say the thieves use small cameras to record PINs.
Dozens of people have reported identity theft over the past few months in Nassau. The most recent ATM skimmer arrest occurred in May when police arrested Abraham Grigoryan, 27, who was allegedly caught withdrawing money from Chase Bank customers using stolen information.
Another skimmer device was recently found at an ATM at a 7-Eleven in Franklin Square.
Police say to cover PIN entries with a hand and to tug on credit card readers before using them.
