Nassau County forms heroin task force
News 12 Long Island has learned that Nassau County has formed a heroin task force.
Officials say the task force will have eight detectives shifted to the narcotics unit.
Police say they want to gather more intelligence in heroin dealers.
As News 12 has reported, deadly heroin overdoses have doubled from this time last year.
There have been 36 recorded deaths between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31.
The number is up from 18 in the same period last year.
