Many young professionals say it is too expensive to live in Nassau County.
Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman says research shows that more 20 to 30-year-olds are living with their parents than ever before, largely because they're trying to save money to move to another region.
An intern for the comptroller says that student debt combined with a high cost of living make moving out difficult.
"A lot of people that are coming out of college right now, they tend to look for places to rent,” she says. “Saving up to buy their own house is really hard because we have a lot of student debt to pay off."
County officials say they're using this data to work on finding new ways to bring more affordable housing to Long Island.
