Nassau lawmakers and officials have come together for a plan to reopen two police precincts in the county.

It's part of the county's $3 billion budget, which was agreed upon Monday.

County Executive Laura Curran and other leaders announced their plan to reopen the 6th and 8th precincts, located in Manhasset and Levittown, respectively. They were closed in 2012 as part of a cost-cutting measure and currently operate as community policing centers.

Curran had initially opposed lawmakers' efforts to reopen the precincts, saying she had concerns about the ability to hire enough detectives to staff them. Curran says the county will work with the police commissioner to identify inspectors who will oversee the precincts, as well as staffing.

Residents in Manhasset say they're glad to hear that the precinct is reopening.

Curran says there are also capital improvements that need to be made, particularly at the 6th Precinct, before the buildings can reopen. That's expected to happen at some point in 2019.
