April 11 is National 8-Track Tape Day. The magnetic tape sound-recording technology was originally introduced in the early 1960s.
Originally called Stereo 8, it was widely popular in U.S. homes and cars through the 60s up until the early 80s. But now, the audio format is obsolete. Other formats since have offered higher quality sound with more convenience.
Next came the cassette tape of the 80s and 90s then compact discs or CDs.
Now, digital downloads are popular with music fans.
Streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are where people listen to their beats.
However, one format that’s making a retro come back over the past few years are vinyl records.
