Bridgeport family thanks police for finding alleged killer
The family of a Bridgeport murder victim thanked police Saturday for arresting his alleged killer one month after he was gunned down in a bodega.
Police Chief AJ Perez made a promise on News 12 to the family of 22-year-old Khali Davis, who was shot to death on the East Side of the city two days before Christmas.
"We can't bring him back, but I can surely bring you justice and I think we have done so," said Chief Perez.
He says a stake-out and surveillance operation on Harriett Street Friday led to the arrest of 19-year-old Jarod Hamilton, who had been hiding at a home in that neighborhood.
Police say they were at the right place at the right time when they arrested Hamilton and charged him with murdering Davis.
News 12 Connecticut was on the scene moments after the gunfire rang out inside of Maple Mini-Market on Kossuth Street
Hamilton is being held on $1 million bond.
Speaking by Facetime to News 12, the victim's mother, Juanita Davis, said knowing that Hamilton is behind bars will not bring back her son, but it will bring her family "a certain peace of mind."
"We can begin to have some sense of closure," said Davis.
