The Ronald McDonald Family Room Program is officially open at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
The progam is expected to give support to the families of more than 7,000 children who come through the hospital each year.
Kim Ragone, whose daughter has been at the hospital for months, is happy about the new room. Rachel is being treated for a rare form of Cancer.
Matthew Campo says, "It's a partnership that we developed with Stony Brook Children's and the Ronald McDonald house of Long Island. It's to meet the needs of families here at the hospital."
"A parent is now able to stay at a child's bedside,” Dr. Margaret McGovern told News 12. “When a parent is with a child, things go better. The outcomes are better, so we encourage this.
They essentially put two rooms together filled with amenities.
Some of these amenities include include lockers, laundry facilities, bathrooms and comfortable seating.
