Montefiore Medical Center study finds 9/11 responders have decreased lung function
A study by specialists at Montefiore Medical Center finds that September 11th responders continue to experience lung problems.
The findings were recently released from tests done a year after the terrorist attacks. The results show lung function was decreased in firefighters and EMS workers comparable to a 10-year smoker. About 12,000 emergency workers who were at the site within a week of the attacks were tested.
Doctors say more long-term tests are needed to understand the full affects of contaminants from debris to the lungs.
