Two schools in Montclair were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after it was believed that a high school student had a weapon inside of Montclair High School.
Montclair police say that Montclair High School and nearby Renaissance School were both put on lockdown after police received a call that a student had a weapon. It was a situation that left many of the students shaken.
“They announced an internal threat and to stay in place, so our teacher told us to go to the wall,” says sophomore Max Haley.
Authorities quickly put out messages on social media, warning parents to stay away from the school.
“I could see parents everywhere, standing outside. We were not allowed to go in the circle. It was very frustrating, scary,” says mother Kendra Haley.
Police say that they found the student in question outside of the George Innes School annex of the high school, which is across the street. They say that no weapon was found.
Police say that two other students may have been involved in the incident but did not provide any further details.
The school was taken off lockdown after there was determined to be no threat. Students were dismissed a little after 12 p.m. for an already scheduled early dismissal.
Police say that no arrests were made and no one was hurt.
