(01/08/07) THE BRONX ? Police say the mother of a 1-month-old baby boy fabricated a story about her child's abduction to investigators Monday.

According to police, the mother told investigators her child had been taken outside Jacobi Medical Center. Police say they were told a man at the gate threatened the mother and took off with the child. After hours of questioning, police now say the mother indicated she may have dumped the child nearby.

Police are now scouring the area around the hospital for the child. They are not sure if the child is alive or dead.
