Bronx straphangers concerned over future fare hikes will have an opportunity to speak publicly to Metropolitan Transit Authority representatives.
MTA officials say they are considering their options on ways to increase revenue. A special meeting will be held Tuesday evening at Lehman College to discuss two possible plans under consideration.
The first option would increase the subway fare by a quarter to $2.25. The monthly fare under that plan would cost $79, an increase of $3.
A second plan would keep the base fare at its current price of $2. Off-peak rates would be cut to $1.50, but monthly fees would jump to somewhere between $81 and $82 under that proposal.
City Comptroller William Thompson is among those who oppose raising the rate. He suggests the MTA petition the state and federal government for aid to maintain the budget.
