Police say a Mastic man accused of making about 300 bogus 911 calls over the past three weeks did it out of sheer boredom.
Police say Michael Salino would call police and report car accidents, fires, robberies and other crimes. According to Lt. Timothy Dillon, Salinio would often disguise his voice with an accent or as that of a female.
Police were only able to track him down when an officer saw Salino using a payphone. They say he usually used a pre-paid cell phone to make the calls.
Salino faces 31 counts of reporting a false instrument. He was released on his own recognizance Tuesday afternoon.
