Massapequa middle school closed after student tests positive for COVID-19
A middle school in Massapequa was closed to in-person learning Wednesday after a student tested positive for COVID-19.
The superintendent sent a letter out on Monday, saying the student at Berner Middle School tested positive and will be quarantined. Contact tracing will be conducted by the Department of Health.
Officials say the students will be taught online so the building can be cleaned and disinfected.
Additionally, the district says it will work collaboratively with the Department of Health regarding any other measures that may be necessary.
In addition, three more Long Island schools have announced COVID-19 positive cases. Westhampton Beach High School is closed Wednesday due to a student testing positive for the virus.
In Kings Park, officials say a student tested positive at the high school. However, district officials say the student has not been in the building for several days and their learning plans have not changed.
Meanwhile, in East Rockaway, the high school reported a staff member tested positive and the school will be closed through Friday.
