Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano wants to put flashing speed limit signs outside all 434 schools in the county.
Mangano says the signs will cost $6.5 million.
Most Nassau drivers who spoke with News 12 say it will be worth it if it prevents them from getting ticketed in school zones.
Nassau County told News 12 in a statement, "The goal of this program is safety, and every school zone will have a blinking light regardless of the presence of a camera."
Legislator David Denenberg thinks the Mangano plan is overkill, especially since many schools already have flashing speed limit lights.
County lawmakers are expected to vote Monday on borrowing the $6.5 million for the lights.
The county currently has 23 fixed or mobile speed cameras switched on during school hours. Plans are to have one camera in each of the 56 school districts by the end of the year.
