Police are investigating a home invasion that left a homeowner stabbed and in serious condition.

Authorities say the home invasion occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on Matice Place in Ronkonkoma. Cops say homeowner Roger Monteforte called 911 and said he was attacked while in bed by someone who then fled the scene. Police say they found Monteforte, 68, in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds. He is recovering under heavy sedation. Police say they hope to learn more once they can interview him.

Authorities are also trying to determine whether Monteforte was targeted or if the incident was random. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
