MTA police say a man on a bicycle was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Center Moriches this morning.
The incident occurred just after 10 a.m. at the crossing on Railroad Avenue. The MTA says the man fell off his bike, stood up and picked up the bike, but continued to stay on the tracks.
The MTA tells News 12 that the warning gates were down, and that the man, who was in his 20s, went around the gates. A police officer who happened to be nearby and another woman yelled at the man to move as the train came closer.
Service was suspended temporarily on the Montauk line.
