The man charged with the murder of his estranged wife remains in a Bronx hospital after an apparent suicide attempt Tuesday.
Fotis Dulos was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi by helicopter after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning in his garage.
Dulos was brought to the Bronx hospital due to its hyperbaric chamber in critical condition. The hyperbaric chamber is used to combat carbon monoxide poisoning. Once inside, a patient is able to breathe in pure oxygen.
Officers went to his home in Farmington, Connecticut Tuesday after he failed to appear at an emergency bond hearing in Stamford. The hearing was set up to answer questions about whether he had the collateral to back his $6 million bond. News 12 is told it was likely the judge would have asked for his bond to be revoked.
Responding officers found Dulos unresponsive and alone in his car with his garage doors shut.
"When officers responded, they could see through a window that Mr. Dulos was sitting in his vehicle and he had obvious signs of medical distress," says Lt. Tim McKenzie.
As previously reported, Dulos was charged with murder in the death of his estranged wife, Jennifer, who went missing in May. Her body was never found, but police have declared her dead.
Dulos was initially charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution as detectives searched for any signs of Jennifer.
His lawyer went to the hospital Tuesday, but refused to speak to the press.
Farmington police executed a search warrant to gain access to Dulos' home to check for any type of suicide note.
In court, Judge Gary White ordered his re-arrest for failing to show up to an emergency bond hearing yesterday.
But an agreement between the state's attorney and Pattis allows Dulos to remain at Jacobi Medical Center where family members can visit. Patts said Dulos' loved ones will be arriving in New York from Greece Wednesday and are awaiting a prognosis from doctors.
