Lindenhurst fed up with flood woes

LINDENHURST - Residents of one South Shore community who are still recovering from Superstorm Sandy say they are fed up with flooding that's occuring almost on a daily basis.
Residents in parts of Lindenhurst are dealing with water that is backing up through storm drains. They say the issue used to be a problem only during extreme weather or very high tides, but now, standing water is an almost daily occurrence.
Neighbors have complained to officials with the Town of Babylon about the issue. Officials say they are "aggressively pursuing long-term solutions," including one that would install so-called "flapper gates" to prevent seawater from backing up into storm drains.
The town says it's trying to secure an $800,000 grant to test the devices. There's no word yet on when that will happen, to the chagrin of local homeowners.
