The 77-year-old advocated for the construction of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant, but then went on to be a fierce advocate for Long Island rate payers.
Matthew Cordaro was interviewed extensively for News 12's 'Power of the People' documentary on the Shoreham nuclear plant
Former LIPA leader Richard Kessel, who many times sat across the negotiating table from Cordaro, called him a brilliant executive, a tireless LIPA board member and a good friend.
In a statement to News 12, LIPA Chairman Ralph Suozzi says, "On behalf of the entire LIPA Board, we honor Matt for his service, legacy, and his passion for putting our customers first."
