NEW ROCHELLE - A local athlete and coach are making themselves known on the boys basketball team at Iona College.

Long Island native Tavon Sledge is playing in his first year at Iona after transferring from Iowa State. The sophomore is learning from coach Tim Cluess, who has won about 70 percent of his games in his third year on the job.

As for the mentor's influence on the student, Cluess says Sledge is willing to learn to bring his game to a more professional level.
