Long Islanders are bracing for Danny as the storm continues to head toward the northeast.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bill Korbel says the tropical storm is churning in the Atlantic and could pass by east of Montauk Saturday afternoon. The storm may gain strength and become a hurricane, but is likely to remain a strong tropical storm. The East End would see worse weather than the rest of the Island with heavy rains, beach erosion, high winds.

Long Islanders are stocking up on water, batteries and supplies in the event of power outages. LIPA says it has been preparing for hurricane season by trimming trees to prevent power lines from toppling in the wind.

Last weekend Long Island lost about 25 yards of sand along the beach front from Hurricane Bill. Some say the second round of storms could devastate the shores.
