A Bronx program is using art-themed projects to teach Common Core to students and prevent summer learning loss.
The Learning Through an Expanded Arts program, or LEAP, is a nonprofit arts education curriculum committed to improving education through an engaging and hands-on approach.
Together with P.S. 5 and the New York City Department of Education, LEAP is showcasing its initiative through a series of performances. Children also build model robots, take investigative field trips and work on distinctive projects.
The program's main goal is to prevent summer learning loss, which happens when children do not engage in learning activities over the summer.
Parents have also noticed that the lessons learned through LEAP translate directly into their child's upcoming school year.
The program is currently in its third year.
