Gov. Ned Lamont's office says a supposedly "top secret" meeting on tolls this week was a "miscommunication."
Toll supporters sent out an email Saturday about a "top secret and urgent" meeting Tuesday night in Westport.
The email urged recipients to not share details publicly, so "No Tolls" groups would not get wind of the meeting.
The governor's office, as well as state Sen. Will Haskell says there will be no meeting Tuesday.
Lamont's office said Sunday that it stemmed from a miscommunication.
"Gov. Lamont was in contact with Sen. Haskell about a possible town hall for this Tuesday which was only ever in the planning stages, from our understanding," his office said in a statement. "We've also been in contact with multiple advocacy groups in favor of transportation investment as they have requested information about the trucks-only CT2030 plan over recent weeks. There appears to have a been a miscommunication from one of these groups as to the Governor's commitment to this event, as it as always difficult to make the date and time of the town hall work with the governor's schedule.
The governor has and will continue to engage with the public on his vision to grow Connecticut's economy, and that discussion will continue this week.
Haskell says he hopes to hold a public forum on transportation in the future.
"There is no forum on Tuesday — the logistics didn’t come together unfortunately," Haskell said in a statement. "I am still very eager to host a public forum on transportation, so that all my constituents have an opportunity to ask crucial questions from elected officials and administration leaders about infrastructure improvements. As soon as we are able to confirm speakers, a venue and a date for the forum, it will of course be open to the public. I regularly host community conversations across my district, and they are always widely publicized and open to all. Welcoming diverse perspectives is the entire point of events like this one."
