Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday that 578 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Connecticut, bringing the total number of cases to 2,571.
He says there are now 36 deaths related to the virus.
Lamont says he spoke with the president and vice president on a call with other governors and discussed what the states need to combat the health crisis.
He says the state received a new shipment of N-95 masks and surgical masks from the federal government, but more PPE is needed since the hospitals are going through supplies at a rapid rate.
The governor says he urged the federal government to think of the New York metropolitan area, including Connecticut, when distributing the supplies.
Lamont says the state was supposed to get 50 ventilators but hasn't received them yet. A health official says the average number of days a person is on a ventilator is 13 days.
The doctor says the rate is about half of what it was in China.

BRIEFING NOTES:
- There are 578 new cases of coronavirus in the state, which came from 2,700 people tested. Lamont says 21% tested positive out of those tests.
- The total number of coronavirus cases in Connecticut is 2,571. The death toll related to the virus is 36.
- Lamont says New Haven County is catching up to Fairfield County in terms of cases.
- He says the state, especially southern Connecticut, needs more PPE (personal protective equipment) and ventilators.
- The federal government delivered 111,000 N-95 masks and 146,000 surgical masks to the state. Lamont says it is still waiting on 50 ventilators.
- Lamont says 20,000 PPE is used in hospitals per day.
- He also says 1,000 more people have offered to volunteer at hospitals.
- The Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA are touring places around the state for temporary hospitals. Yale University, the Tully Center and the O'Neill Center are being considered for several hundred hospital beds to be placed.
- The state has accepted a FEMA hospital that will add 250 additional hospital beds.
- Officials say 517 people are hospitalized from COVID-19.
