A federal court judge has ruled that a three-week delay is needed to make a decision on new possible flight restrictions on the East End.
As News 12 has reported, the East Hampton Town Board recently approved new flight restrictions after growing noise complaints from East End residents.
The changes were supposed to take effect yesterday, but the group "Friends of the East Hampton Airport" filed a temporary restraining order against the restrictions.
The group's attorneys refused to speak to News 12. They argued in court that only the federal government can regulate air traffic. They also said the new town law is a threat to air safety.
If the restrictions are approved, no aircraft could land or take off between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Officials say noisier aircraft would be banned at East Hampton Airport between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. with a one flight per week cap during the summer.
