MINEOLA - The young driver convicted in a fiery crash on the Southern State Parkway that killed four of his friends was sentenced Tuesday to five to 15 years in prison.

Joseph Beer, of Queens, pleaded guilty in July to aggravated vehicular homicide. He admitted to smoking marijuana and speeding when he crashed in 2012.

Beer, who was 17 when the accident happened, was denied a four-year youthful offender sentence by the judge. His attorney says he plans to appeal and will once again ask for Beer to be considered a youthful offender.
