It has been helping our troops overseas for 11 years, but now Jacob's Light Foundation has run out of money and plans to close.
Since 2003, the charity has been sending a taste of home to U.S. troops serving overseas.
Jacob's Light Founder Dorine Kenney broke the news to her volunteers, and said the funds have run low and the foundation will have to close its door at the end of the year.
Kenney is the Gold Star mother of the charity's namesake. Her only child, Army Specialist Jacob Fletcher, was killed by a roadside bomb in 2003.
Hundreds of volunteers joined the cause to prepare care packages once a month for troops without family support.
Over the past 11 years, Jacob's Light has sent 650,000 pounds of supplies to hundreds of thousands of military service members.
Kenney says it costs $4,000 to send the care packages every month, but the boost in morale for the troops is priceless.
The final packing of boxes for the troops will be held on Nov. 25 to mark Fletcher's 40th birthday.
The Knights of Columbus is holding a fundraiser on Oct. 18 to raise money for the final packing of Jacob's Light.
