Nassau County Legislature District 9
Background
Nathan, 54, of Williston Park, is running on the Democrat, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines. He ran for the Nassau County Legislator 9th district seat in 2015 and lost. Nathan serves as the Town of North Hempstead’s chief bay constable. He is a member of the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee and the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee, where he works to ensure compliance with New York state’s mandates concerning water runoff. He also monitors the collection of water samples, organizes beach clean ups and oversees the seeding of clams in the newly opened shellfish areas. Nathan volunteers as a youth basketball and baseball coach. He is married and has six children.
Issues
Nathan said he is not actively campaigning for the legislature because he is recuperating from emergency triple bypass open-heart surgery, which was conducted on Sept. 22 at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. However, he remains on the ballot and said he is ready to serve after he recovers from surgery. Nathan said, “I ran in 2015 and I’m running again now.” He explained he’s running again because he said, “It’s a matter of transparency. The Republicans say they don’t raise taxes but every fee under the sun has become more expensive.” He said he opposes “privatization of the county’s infrastructure.” He added that he is against what he called the county’s “cronyism.”

Nicolello, 57, of New Hyde Park, is running on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform party lines. Nicolello, former counsel to the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park school board, was first elected to the legislature in 1995 and is serving his 11th consecutive term. For the past four years, he has been the legislature’s deputy presiding officer. Nicolello has a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from St. John’s University and a law degree from Fordham Law School. He is the first vice president of the of the Mineola Lions Club, and previously was president of New Hyde Park Kiwanis. He’s also a member of the Cellini Lodge Sons of Italy in New Hyde Park. Nicolello, who practices law in Uniondale, is married and has two children.
