Nassau County Legislature District 13

McKevitt, 46, of East Meadow, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines. He has represented state Assembly District 17 since 2006. If elected to the Nassau County Legislature, McKevitt said he will leave the Assembly. McKevitt earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Hofstra University and a law degree from Hofstra Law School. McKevitt served as a deputy town attorney for the Town of Hempstead from 1997 to 2001, and again from 2003 to 2006. McKevitt also has practiced privately with law firms in Nassau County. He interned for New York State Supreme Court Justice Marvin Segal and the New York State attorney general’s office, and also worked in the offices of state Sen. Kemp Hannon and U.S. Sen. Alfonse D’Amato. McKevitt is a member of the East Meadow Kiwanis Club. For 19 years, he has coached the Holy Trinity Diocesan High School mock trial team. McKevitt is the Assembly’s minority leader pro tempore and serves on the Assembly’s consumer affairs and protection, codes, local governments, and election law committees. He is married and has two children.

McKevitt said, “I have a record in the Assembly of supporting the lowest middle-class state income tax rate in almost 60 years.” McKevitt said that, working with other members of the legislature, “We adjusted the tax rates to give the middle-class people a break, and for those making over $2 million a year, we raised it on them.” McKevitt said he supported state laws cracking down on drunken drivers. He said, “I was a sponsor of Leandra’s Law, which punishes people who drive drunk with children in the car.” McKevitt said that as an assemblyman, he has supported “packages of bills which address the heroin epidemic, including requiring insurance companies to cover more treatment.”

Napolitano, 55, of East Meadow, is running on the Democratic, Independence, Reform, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines. Napolitano works part time as a licensed optician at Diamond Vision in Rockville Centre. She ran in 2015 for the 13th Legislative District seat and lost. Napolitano is a graduate of Longwood High School in Middle Island. She graduated from the two-year ophthalmic dispensing program at New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn. She has a New York State license in ophthalmic dispensing. Napolitano is a member of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the East Meadow PTA. She is divorced and has two children.

Napolitano says, “I am passionate about my community and doing the right thing for the right reasons.” Napolitano said that if elected she would concentrate on “combating the heroin and opioid epidemic that is ravaging our youth and our community.” Napolitano said, “We need to be very aggressive and proactive in prevention, first, and we will accomplish that through education starting in our elementary schools and continuing up to the high school level.” Napolitano continued, “We also need to have treatment facilities and resources available when someone is serious about recovery.” Napolitano said, “I also want to talk about the corruption that’s going on countywide and my commitment to a transparent government that consists of public servants rather than self-serving politicians.”
