Brookhaven Town Council Member, 5th District

Di Santo, 53, of East Patchogue, is running on the Democratic, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines. She is in her third term as a member of the South Country school board. Di Santo graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a degree in secondary education and psychology. She obtained a master’s degree in liberal studies from Stony Brook University. She also has two graduate certifications from Dowling College. She is divorced with two children.

Foley, 49, of Blue Point, is running on the Republican, Conservative and Independence party lines. Foley is a former member of the Brookhaven Town Board of Zoning Appeals. He received a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Misericordia College. He taught American studies at Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in Queens, where he graduated, for three years. Foley is a former vice president of the Bayport-Blue Point Little League. He is married, with four children.

Foley said he has three issues he wants to focus on, if re-elected. First is completion of the Ronkonkoma Hub project, an estimated $500 million project that would include a 1,450-unit transit-related development with 545,000 square feet of office and retail space. For months, Suffolk County has tried to determine a sewer connection plan. “That’s a project that will transform the area and create thousands of jobs,” he said. Foley also wants land-use plans in Medford and East Patchogue adopted to force several automotive-related businesses into compliance, and to renovate Hallock Park in North Patchogue. “We’re the first line of government for constituents. I’m a hands-on town councilman, so I take pride in addressing quality-of-life issues in the district,” he said.
