The city is launching a new pilot program in the Bronx to make sexual and reproductive health care more accessible to teens.

The initiative is aimed at reducing teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Doctors say many teens don?t know they have rights when it comes to their health. According to the teen health care Bill of Rights, Bronx teens don?t need a parent?s permission to get medical care for pregnancy, pregnancy prevention or testing and treatment for STDs.

As part of the city?s Health Department initiative, health care providers will learn how to make doctor visits more teen friendly. Teens and parents can call 311 to learn more about free or low-cost confidential adolescent sexual and reproductive health services in the borough.
