Indian Field in Woodlawn to undergo $3 million renovation after years of complaints
Officials have secured a $3 million grant to upgrade Indian Field.
For years, local teams in Woodlawn complained about the flood-prone field, saying it was a safety hazard. At one point, the area got so bad that it had to be closed off, leaving one less field to play ball on.
The money will go toward renovating one of the sections of the current field, as well as building a completely new field. Players and coaches say the new turf would mean they wouldn't have to travel out of the Bronx to play baseball and softball.
The city's Department of Parks & Recreation is in the process of drafting a design plan and inspecting the field.
Work on Indian Field is expected to be completed sometime in 2016.
