Ill passenger aboard United Airlines flight from Brussels met by medical crews at Newark Liberty International Airport
Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention examined a passenger on an arriving flight at Newark Liberty International Airport Saturday afternoon.
The passenger was on a United Airlines flight arriving from Brussels shortly after noon. Officials say the passenger fell ill on the flight and was vomiting, stoking fears of a possible Ebola case.
Authorities say it has been determined the passenger does not appear to have Ebola.
The CDC says it responded in hazmat gear and escorted a father and daughter off the plane. The sick passenger was taken University Hospital in Newark for further evaluation.
The plane and its 255 passengers had to wait onboard for more than an hour until the plane was sealed at the gate.
Ebola, a viral disease, has swept through Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinnea. Nearly 7,500 people are believed to have been sickened by the disease, and more than 3,400 have died in the outbreak, according to the World Health Organization.
This week marked the first case of Ebola in America: a man who traveled to Texas from West Africa contracted the disease. He remains in isolation at a Dallas area hospital in critical condition.
