Former News 12 anchor Carol Silva revealed this morning that she is cancer-free.
Silva announced on social media last year that she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. A tumor the size of a golf ball in her lung spread to 12 tumors in her brain.
"I have been told I am cancer-free," said Silva. She added that she was "jumping for joy" when she heard the news, grateful and thankful - but that her faith kept her believing her entire battle.
Over the past year, Silva has shared her journey on social media - always with a positive, uplifting spirit. Silva says her positive attitude and spirituality dates back as long as she can remember, having been instilled in her by her parents.
Expressing that she's been blessed to have a loving family and large group of friends, Silva offered advice to those who aren't so fortunate who are going through dark times.
"We can always choose who we are going to spend time with," she said. "I choose to share my energy with and draw on energy with the people who are going to bring me the most positive things."
Silva was unsure what lies ahead for her but said she would continue to grow her soul and try to do good for others.
"I'm excited," she said. "I'm really, really excited for what's next."
In addition to her faith, Silva also credited the support of family, friends, colleagues and her doctors at Northwell Health's Monter Cancer Center.
