Hunts Point residents say area smells
Many South Bronx residents say the area where they live stinks, but that is just one of the issues they want the city to resolve.
Congressman Jose Serrano (D-Bronx) says he has insisted for years that the city address odor complaints and quality of life issues in Hunts Point.
City Councilwoman Annabel Palma (D-Parkchester) says she wants to continue working with the mayor and residents to come up with a plan. She says she does not want additional factories and waste pollution plants in the neighborhood.
Residents protested in front of New York Organize Fertilizer Company, one of the sites they say adds to the horrible smell in the South Bronx.
The community group, Mothers on the Move, led a bus tour around several sites in Hunts Point to make their voices heard. Residents wore masks and biohazard suits to keep out the odor. They say the city must do something.
Residents are also concerned about the proposed Oak Point Jail. They say the land should be used to better serve the community, such as having a community center built there.
