Hundreds of residents came to the Brookhaven Town Planning Board's meeting Monday evening to protest a proposed plan to build a Walmart in East Patchogue.
Residents say they're concerned about the amount of traffic a Walmart could bring to the area. The proposed site for the store is at Hospital Road near Sunrise Highway. A traffic study said the store will bring an additional 378 cars every day during the evening rush hour.
Another traffic concern from protesters is that the store will cause backups and affect access to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital
Some supporters also attended the meeting, with one resident telling News 12 Long Island he's in favor of building a Walmart because it will create jobs.
