More than 800 volunteers were at Long Island National Cemetery Saturday to honor and respect our nation's heroes.

In tradition with the Wreaths Across America ceremony, the volunteers read each veteran's name out loud, then placed a wreath on their graves.

A total of 45,000 wreaths were laid Saturday, which only covers 12 percent of the cemetery. The cemetery holds 345,000.

Volunteers also laid wreaths at Calverton National Cemetery as well as 1,200 other cemeteries across the nation today.

"A lot of people forget that there all of these people that did something for our freedom and they are kind of forgotten this time of year," says one volunteer.  "We are here to let everybody know that not only are they not forgotten but we still remember them."
