Officials say human remains were found during a search of a wooded area near the Freeport-Roosevelt border, and investigators believe the case is gang-related.
The remains have not yet been identified.
The findings were announced at a Saturday morning news conference. On Friday, police and FBI officials had combed the wooded area along the Long Island Rail Road tracks of the Babylon Line. An area near Commercial Street and Lakeview Avenue in Freeport was closed off, not far from the border of Roosevelt.
Investigators say a "lead" in the case prompted the search, but they did not elaborate.
The latest search comes after the FBI's Long Island Gang Task Force discovered human remains at Cow Meadow Park in Freeport on Wednesday. Those remains have yet to be identified.
And back on Oct. 19, the body of 16-year-old Angel Soler was found under a concrete slab in a wooded area of Roosevelt.
There have also been recent searches for human remains at the Massapequa Preserve.
The gang-related cases come as the parents of dozens of missing Hispanic teens are on edge. Police say there are 47 young Hispanic people missing in Nassau and Suffolk combined, and investigators believe some of those cases are gang-related.
Since Thursday, Nassau County acting Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says they have arrested 58 people who are gang members or gang associates, including six members of MS-13.
